Schumacher’s career
Schumacher made his F1 debut in 1991 and became famous for his speed, fitness and relentless work ethic. His move to Ferrari in 1996 rebuilt the team into a dominant force; in 2002 he finished on the podium in every race. He retired in 2006, returned with Mercedes from 2010 to 2012, then retired for good with 91 race wins, a record at the time.
In December 2013, Schumacher suffered a serious head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps. His family has kept details of his health private since then.
Hamilton’s records
Lewis Hamilton has since passed many of Schumacher’s other records, including:
- Most race wins (over 100)
- Most pole positions
- Most podium finishes
His seven titles came with McLaren (2008) and Mercedes (2014–2020). In 2025, he joined Ferrari, Schumacher’s old team, chasing a record eighth title.
The next generation
Schumacher’s son Mick Schumacher raced in F1 for the Haas team in 2021 and 2022.
