Why the date can be different in other places
The world doesn’t change date all at once. The new day starts first in the Pacific, near the International Date Line, and sweeps west. For several hours each day, two different dates are in use around the world at the same time. When it’s 9 a.m. Tuesday in Tokyo, it’s still 8 p.m. Monday in New York.

How week numbers work
Many businesses, especially in Europe, refer to weeks by number. Under the ISO 8601 standard, weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year’s first Thursday. Most years have 52 numbered weeks, but some, including 2026, have 53. More in how many weeks are in a year.

The year-month-day format avoids confusion, since 05/11 means May 11 in the US but November 5 almost everywhere else.
